Train Your Children in Torah, God’s Principles

And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up ~ Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he shall not depart from it ~ Proverbs 22:6

As parents or guardians our children have been entrusted into our care by the Creator of the universe. He formed them after giving them their assignment in the earth and He sent them here, through us, to be made ready to carry out that assignment. We are expected to love them, care for their physical needs and make sure they know Who God is and what His Word says.

Scary stuff if you take a minute and think about it. We have been instructed to get our children – who have been sent into the earth as God’s Ambassadors – educated and train them in the Torah, the Principles of God, so that they can do the job they were called to do. And, in order for us to do this correctly we must keep the principles in our own heart.

So how can this be accomplished in today’s world?

It’s busy out there. We have jobs and obligations to people in the Community. Our bosses are hard taskmasters and expect us to give our best to them since they give their money to us.

Kids are in school 6 hours a day and then have 3 hours of homework. Our spouses have needs and wants and it feels as though there aren’t enough hours in the day to get the necessities of everyday life finished.

And what about our favorite television shows? Who has time to talk about God and what He wants?

God made it pretty clear when He said “Hey! Listen up! I AM your God, the only God! Do as I tell you and your lives will be long and rewarding. Pay attention!”

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. You shall love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, with ALL your soul, and with ALL your strength ~ Deuteronomy 6:4-5

Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you ~ Deuteronomy 6:3

God said Train your children to Love Him, to do His commandments and then He told you how to do it.

Talk of God with your kids. When you wake up, when you fix their breakfasts, when you walk them to school, when you walk in the park, when you help them with homework, when you’re cooking dinner and setting the table and getting their baths and reading them a story.

Show them the Word.

Show them the principles.

Do what God says and when they are old and think they don’t need you or God, they will remember.

And they will hear God calling them back to the agreement they made with Him before time began.

You can do this.
